Some uses and forms of ‘future tenses’.

 

1 Simple prediction

example: There will be heavy rain in the Kanto region tomorrow morning.
2 Arrangements

example: I'm having dinner with my boss after work.
3 Plans and intentions

example: We're going to go to Hawaii for a week in August.
4 Time-tabled events

example: The last Shinkansen leaves in 30 minutes.
5 Prediction based on present evidence

example: Look at these black clouds. I think it's going to rain!
6 Willingness

example: I'll help you with your homework.
7 An action in progress in the future

example: This time next week I'll be on a plane to London.
8 An action or event that is a matter of routine

example: You'll be coming here on Monday, won't you?
9 Obligation

example: You are to read pages 10 and 11 before you begin Exercise 3.
10 An action or event that will take place immediately or very soon

example: The train is about to leave.
11 Projecting ourselves into the future and looking back at a completed action

example: By the end of the semester we will have finished the textbook.
