TOEFL Sample Essay 3

Some high schools require all students to wear uniforms. Other high schools permit students to decide what to wear to school. Which of these two school politics de you think is better? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

 

              Nowadays, the number of high schools which permit students to decide what to wear to school are increasing. However, I think requiring all students to wear uniforms is better. Students can learn to keep the rules and to live with many people. Wearing uniforms is part of the training for high school students. In addition, they do not have to choose the clothes.

              First of all, students can learn to obey the rules. All students wear the same clothes. Then some people want to wear the clothes which are different from other people’s clothes. If some students wear other clothes and come to the school, they will become angry.  Wearing uniforms is the rule, so they must stand and keep the rule. It is important to learn to keep the rules through their own experiences.

Second, students can learn to live with many people. After they graduated from school, they will work in society. Then they must wear formal clothes as other people. They will know that they live in the group. They will then understand that it was important to wear the uniforms when they were the students.

Lastly, students do not need to choose their clothes every morning. They do not have much time in the morning. However, if they wear uniforms, they do not have to choose their clothes. Therefore, they can prepare for school more quickly.

It is important for students to wear uniforms. They should learn many things while they go to school. Wearing the uniform helps them to learn how to keep the rules. That is part of their training. Therefore it is better to require all students to wear uniforms. (277 words)
