Listening and Reading Homework Process

Important: Only studying 90 minutes a week in this class is not enough. You need to study at home. You more you study, the better you get. The is no easy way to improve.

Reading homework steps

Read the explanation of the skill in the textbook.

Read the ‘Reading Tips’ (if there is one) on the webpage.

Read all passages and answer all questions. (Do NOT use a dictionary)

Read the passages again, using a dictionary, and write a second set of answers.

Decide which answers are better. Answers you are not sure of, mark with a '?'.

Bring answers to class on a seperate piece of paper.

Review your corrected homework answers. read the passage again and try to see why you were wrong.

If you still don't know why you were wrong, come to my office and ask me, or ask me in class.


Listening homework steps

Listen to the CD or sound file, and write down your answers.

Listen again and try to repeat the sentences. Do this as many times as you can.

Listen again, as many times as you want, and try to write down each sentence.

Look at the sentences you have written down and check any words you don't know in your dictionary. Be very careful with 'R' and 'L' sounds, and also 'B' and 'V' sounds.

Check your original answers and change any you feel are wrong.

Look at the tapescript at the end of the textbook and check your answers again.

Write down your final answers on a piece of paper and bring them to class.

After class, review any answers that were wrong. Listen again, read the tapescript again and see why you were wrong.
